Massage in Schools Programme (MISP)

The vision of the Massage in Schools Programme is that “every child attending school experience positive and nurturing touch every day...everywhere in the world.”

This international peer massage programme shares in common all the same aims of the health and wellbeing framework for the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, especially that children and young people should feel happy, safe, respected and included in the school environment and all staff should be proactive in promoting positive behaviour in the classroom, playground and the wider community.

The Massage in Schools Instructor Training Course equips adults with the necessary knowledge and tools to implement the child-to-child MISP massage routine as well as story massage and other touch activities to help bring the curriculum alive within a school or other setting, such as in the family. Children up to the age of 12 are primarily kinaesthetic learners and the MISP respects this part of their nature. Touch and movement are essentials for all aspects of child development, learning and interaction. Peer massage and massage in the family is a fresh approach to learning and sharing in a creative and fun way.

Because the MISP encourages an environment of care and respect, it is a positive communication tool to use in a school environment as well as in the family and has a great track record for reducing bullying and abusive behaviour, helping to bring out ones more empathic caring nature.

The Massage in Schools Instructor Training Course is run over a 2 day period and is a comprehensive balance of practical tuition and theory. See misascotland.org.uk for more details about the MISP and training dates for the courses. You can also contact Isabel to discuss your training needs and find out more about the MISP.
